One-of-a-Kind Timber Pieces for Interiors That Honour Sustainability
At Nexus Built, we believe a home should reflect more than just personal taste. It should echo your values. That’s why we’re drawn to collaborators like Rustic Art Australia, a local furniture and joinery maker whose commitment to sustainability and craftsmanship is as strong as the pieces they create.
Based in Cardiff, Rustic Art turns reclaimed Australian hardwood into timber pieces designed to last – both in function and in feeling. Their work spans freestanding furniture, custom vanities, shaving cabinets and built-in joinery. Each item is thoughtfully made and rich with character.

Locally crafted and sustainably sourced, each piece is built to complement your space with warmth and intention.
From floating vanities that bring depth to sleek bathrooms, to mirror-fronted shaving cabinets with hidden storage, Rustic Art creates timber joinery designed to be seen and appreciated. These are statement pieces that elevate the everyday.
“Using locally sourced recycled & sustainable timber, each item is created with the highest grade materials from craftsmen who take pride in their workmanship, ensuring every piece of furniture we sell is of exceptional quality.” — Rustic Art Australia
For those designing high-end interiors with soul, these features aren’t just beautiful. They are one-of-a-kind expressions of intentional living.

Craftsmanship with Character
Rustic Art isn’t just a timber workshop. It’s a space where stories are shaped into form. From hardwood vanities and shaving cabinets to custom shelving, lighting and even timber handles, every piece is made with care. One client’s sentimental timber was transformed into bespoke handles, beginning with a prototype the client loved and evolving into something deeply personal.
“Whatever you think can be made out of timber, we will do it.” — Nick, Rustic Art
Their workshop is a celebration of timber in all its forms. From Brushbox and Blackbutt to American White Oak, the variety is striking. Nick refers to the different species as “Aussie reds, blondes and brunettes”. It’s a playful nod to the natural colour palette that makes each piece unique. Whether it’s a vanity in Blackbutt or a bench seat in Tallowwood, the timber is chosen not just for durability, but for the story it tells through grain, tone and texture.
Rustic Art’s approach honours the natural imperfections of timber. A bench seat made from Tallowwood highlights features others might consider flaws – knots, cracks and grain variations that tell a deeper story. Nick sees beauty in what some would discard. It’s a philosophy that transforms what might be overlooked into something enduring.
“Creating round tables involves a detailed process. The timber is first cut into a square, then shaped into a circle. The edges are carefully rounded, which requires precision during sanding, as most sanding tools have flat edges. Extra care is needed to avoid flattening any part of the curve, ensuring the final edge is smooth and consistently rounded.”- Rustic Art
Even the smallest details, like pebble coasters crafted from richly grained Jamaican walnut, reflect Rustic Arts commitment to craftsmanship. For signage and textured design elements, Nick partners with local drafting specialists Tetracad. They offer comprehensive design services including 3D modelling, realistic renderings, and technical drawings. Their use of CNC machinery and 3D printing expands the creative possibilities while ensuring each piece remains personal and precisely executed.
“From bridge beams to bathroom vanities—every piece has a past.” — Rustic Art Australia

Timber with a Past, Pieces with a Future
One example is a young Blue Gum, salvaged after a bushfire and reinforced with bow ties and resin. It shows how Rustic Art brings new life to old timber. A standout slab had begun to split, and Nick stitched it together using bow ties and resin to maintain its structural integrity while honouring its history.
“Every piece is incomparable and filled with character, which means that each piece tells its own story.” — Rustic Art Australia
These timber creations connect past, present and future. They’re designed not just to fit your space, but to live with it.
“No two pieces are the same thanks to the recycled timber we use.” — Rustic Art Australia
