Reviving Georgetown: Cathy’s Stunning Home Transformation

At Nexus Built, we take pride in turning our clients’ visions into reality, and our recent project in Georgetown, NSW, is a perfect example. Featured in the Spring issue of Hunter & Coastal Lifestyle Magazine, this renovation showcases our commitment to quality craftsmanship and personalised design.

A New Beginning in Georgetown

When Cathy retired, she sought a home that she could transform into her dream space. Georgetown, with its friendly vibe and welcoming community, was the perfect location. The house she chose had potential but required significant work to meet her needs and aesthetic preferences.

The Vision

Cathy’s vision was clear: a home that wasn’t too big, with a nice garden, and a kitchen that could become the heart of her home. As a passionate amateur cook, she wanted a kitchen that was both functional and beautiful. However, the entire house needed a makeover to truly become her dream home.

The Renovation Journey

Working closely with Cathy, our team at Nexus Built guided her through the technical aspects of the renovation while she focused on the interior design. The goal was to create a space that reflected her personality and met her practical needs.

  • Preserving Character: One of the unique aspects of this renovation was the decision to keep the original fretwork above the entrance to the living room. This feature added a touch of historical charm to the modernised space.

  • Colour Palette: Different shades of green were used to bring the kitchen to life. The island was painted in Porter’s Emerald, the cabinetry in Porter’s Agave, and the walls in Porter’s Waterford. This combination created a vibrant yet cohesive look.

  • Modern Amenities: Hidden within the cabinetry is a state-of-the-art home automation system, allowing Cathy to enjoy music and video throughout her home. This system, designed by Simon Spasinski from Custom Audio Visual Solutions, includes ELAN remote controls, Denos sound technology, and a comprehensive data network for fast internet connectivity.

Overcoming Challenges

Renovating a 1920s home presents unique challenges. We faced significant issues such as rising damp and poor internal wall conditions. Additionally, many of the original features, which gave the home its character, were removed during a 1970s renovation.

Despite these obstacles, our team successfully transformed the space. We reworked the ceilings to eliminate unsightly beams and create a more open feel. Large skylights were installed to ensure the home is filled with natural light, significantly reducing the need for artificial lighting during daylight hours and enhancing the home’s sustainability. At the rear of the home, we installed a large sliding door, measuring 2.4 meters high and 4 meters wide, which opens the kitchen to an entertainer’s deck and a beautiful garden space, perfect for gatherings.

The Result

The result is a stunning home that Cathy can truly call her own. The blend of modern amenities with preserved historical elements creates a unique and inviting space. Cathy now has a home that not only meets her functional needs but also serves as a beautiful and comfortable living environment for her and Jed.

Client Testimonial

Cathy shared her thoughts on the renovation: “This will probably be my forever home, and while I’ve done smaller renos before, this was my first chance to renovate an entire house from the ground up, without having to make compromises. Nexus Built made the process smooth and enjoyable, and I couldn’t be happier with the result.”
